Welcome to Brussels!

Here are a few pictures from my new apartment. There is another bedroom that I didn't include. Happy already!

  1. Hey Nils - How fun to wake up and discover you are already in your apartment! What time were you able to check in? I thought you didn't get the place until tomorrow. It looks pretty roomy. Write about its location, etc.

    Hope all is well!

  2. My apartment is in a village called Koekelberg. It is NorthEast of downtown Brussels. I'm a block away from a big park that has a massive catholic basilica on the grounds. I think it is a Flemish neighborhood based on my landlady. A lot of the people don't speak a lot of english, so I have been forced to start speaking some rusty french! Haha, it's fun. There are patisseries and delis like every block.

  3. Hey man, this is Nikesh, I see you have already made it there.

How do you like it so far? When did you get in?

Do you know French at all? I thought they told us that everyone will speak English.

Anyways, glad to see you arrived safely. I am visiting family in Paris right now. I leave to come straight to the CUBC tomorrow. I'll see you then.

  4. Hey Nikesh,

Brussels is pretty awesome. I'm living in Koekelberg which isn't too close to downtown like the rest of you, but I'm close to a big park and a catholic university. Downtown will have much more people who speak english because of all the tourist and political activity.

I got in around seven this morning with Charlie Sipple. We went straight to our apartment.

As far as the language barrier, it is kind of bad in my neighborhood, but I took French in elementary, middle, and high school. I had a couple encounters where I didn't understand, but more that I did, which was cool.

I would say don't worry about it. There might be some struggles trying to do things like order food, but in the end you still get the food, it is just a matter of how you tell them. It can get pretty primitive, you know, like pointing at what you want.

    See You Tomorrow, Enjoy Paris!

  8. Haven't heard from you in over a day - not long by usual standards but very long for someone who is curious to know how you are doing. Hope all is well!
